Warm weather and sunshine are just around the corner, bringing with in springtime fun and endless activities in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. No matter what you have planned this spring, whether it’s a family vacation to the beach or solo time spent relaxing the backyard, Lawton Law Firm wants you to stay safe. We’ve provided a short list of safety tips to help keep you and your family happy and healthy this spring.
1. Keep an Eye on the Weather
Always be prepared for whatever type of weather you may encounter. Check the weather forecast ahead of time, and bring the right supplies for your daily activity. If you plan on heading to the beach on a sunny day, bring an umbrella for shade and sunblock to protect your skin. If you plan on going camping and the forecast says rain, evaluate the safety of your plans.
Whether you live locally or are vacationing from out of town, be prepared for whatever nature may throw at you and stay aware of your surroundings. Also, always bring a form of shelter when going on extended outdoor activities, and make sure someone knows where you will be and when to expect you back in case of an emergency.
2. Drive Safely
The spring season can draw crowds, making streets busier, especially when children and college students are let out of school for spring break. Always practice safe driving techniques. Abide traffic rules, drive defensively, and follow posted speed limits.
Also, always wear a seatbelt and make sure that everyone else in your vehicle is properly buckled in before driving. This applies to children especially, make sure infants are in a rear-facing car seat, babies are in a forward-facing car seat, and children remain in booster seats until they can fit a car’s seatbelt safely.
During spring break it’s normal to let loose and have a good time, but be sure to monitor your drinking, and never drink and drive. Not only is it illegal, driving while intoxicated is dangerous for drivers and every other vehicle and pedestrian on the road. Be safe, and drink responsibly, or plan for a designated driver.
3. Practice Water Safety
With the weather warming up, adults and children alike flock to beaches and pools for cool relief from the hot sun. Make sure you and your family are prepared to practice water safety this season. Is your pool safely gated and inaccessible to small children? Do your children know how to swim, or have you purchased them flotation devices? If possible, take a CPR class and be prepared that way. If you are going out on a boat make sure all safety equipment is on board, especially life vests.
Perhaps one of the most used pieces of warm-weather advice: drink water. Drinking water is always essential to your health, but it becomes especially important on hot days when you’re outdoors or exerting energy. Failing to stay hydrated can result in serious repercussions, like heat exhaustion or heat stroke. So, make it easy on yourself and avoid these issues by packing a few extra water bottles wherever you go.
Sometimes, despite taking extra caution, accidents happen. If you or a loved one is injured this spring because of the carelessness of another person, a car accident, or any other reason, our legal team at Lawton Law Firm is available to help.
